We were excited to welcome back award-winning author (and avid traveller) Dr Sarah Pye – along with her orangutan puppet sidekick Pongo – for another inspiring visit to GCC. This time, Sarah worked with our Year 3 students, bringing her passion for ‘sewing ecological seeds in young minds’ to life.
Sarah’s Rainforest in a Jar workshop was an excellent way for students to learn about how rainforests function. Students then had the chance to create their very own mini rainforest terrariums, which they proudly took home. The hands-on activity sparked curiosity and gave students a deeper appreciation for the natural world.
Sarah is the author of the Wildlife Wong series, which was shortlisted for an Australian Educational Book Award in 2022. Each of the six books tells real-life stories about science and endangered species in the jungles of Borneo. Excitingly, our students were also among the first to hear about Sarah’s newest book, Curious Kai Asks Why.
