Hannah Gassner impressed the selectors and was selected in the 10 – 12 years Sunshine Coast Hockey team and is the only GCC primary student to compete in a State Championship this year.
Earlier in the year Hannah trialled for the Nambour District Hockey team as Glasshouse District did not have a team. She was successful at this trial and represented Nambour at the recent Sunshine Coast Regional trial held at the Sunshine Coast Hockey Centre in Buderim.
Each team played two games and then possible and probable teams were announced. Hannah’s Nambour team dominated the opposition showing great passing and shooting skills and won both of their games. Hannah played most of the games in the full-back position where she showed her skill and strength to pass the ball directly to free attacking players. She also played as a centre half. Hannah’s ability to read the game and predict and shut down the opposition’s play helped gain her selection into the Sunshine Coast team.
She is very excited about going to the State Championships which is being held in Toowoomba.
Hannah has just started playing hockey this year and plays for her club team, Caloundra in the Sunshine Coast competition. She enjoys the friendships she has made with girls from the many different teams she plays in and against. Hannah loves hockey and is inspired by her aunty Jodie Kenny who is the Australian Women’s Hockey captain and has led the very successful Hockeyroos to World Cup, Olympic and Commonwealth Games. We look forward to seeing Hannah develop as a hockey player.
