Experience USC and our Annual Careers Expo
Year 10s had a great day out in June at the University of the Sunshine Coast hearing from academics about new degrees and areas of study in industries of high employment growth. They heard from Doctors of Prosthetics and Orthotics, Cyber and National Security, Business and Commerce, Criminology and Forensics, Nutrition and Dietetics and Paramedicine to name a few.
The sun shone as we toured USC’s facilities, taking in along the way the virtual reality ‘cave’ used for Medical, Engineering and Game Design students (one of only two universities in Australia to have one). GCC students were slightly freaked out, but enthralled by the life-like mannequins in the Nursing and Paramedicine departments, finding them breathing, blinking and screaming if touched!

The day definitely gave our Year 10s plenty of food for thought and was followed up a week later by the annual GCC Careers Expo which was a great success.
Exhibitors loved chatting to our Year 9s – 12s and their parents with many commenting on the fantastic, articulate conversations they had with our students on their hopes and aspirations upon leaving school and how driven they are to get there.
We had a super range of exhibitors including universities, apprenticeship providers, Defence Force, Police Force, TAFE Queensland, private training organisations and employers – something for everyone!
It was our first year using GPAC as the venue for the Expo which was wonderful and perfect for the event.
Now we are looking forward to Year 10s getting out and about from the Sunshine Coast to Brisbane on their work experience in July, sampling a diverse range of industries and professions to help with their decision-making and ensuring they are on the right track at school to get to where they want to be after graduation. Exciting times!
