On Thursday 28 August, Glasshouse Christian College marked a significant milestone with a Silver Anniversary Lunch to celebrate 25 years and honour those who laid the foundations of the College.
Around 30 guests gathered in the College’s Performance Hall, including founding staff, volunteers who quite literally cleared the land and helped build and equip the early classrooms, former Principal Cheryl Bryers, Board members, and members of the church community who first envisioned a Christ-centred school on the Sunshine Coast.
The setting was both elegant and heartfelt. Round tables were dressed with floral centrepieces and silver ribbons, and our Year 12 Hospitality students served a delicious three-course meal.
The formalities began with grace, offered by Paul Holden who was the Pastor of the what was known back then as Beerwah Baptist Church. Paul was also the College’s first Chairman of the Board. Principal Mike Curtis then welcomed guests, before an old video was played of students singing the original College Song. This flowed into a later recording, and then the curtains lifted to reveal a choir several times larger than the entire student body of the College’s first years, performing a moving updated version of the song. Having Sue Fraser, who wrote the original song, in attendance made this moment especially poignant.
Between courses, guests were shown photo and video montages that traced the College’s journey — beginning with the early days of clearing land and building classrooms, and gradually moving through the years to highlight more recent times.
Live performances included the Secondary Dance Troupe and, later in the afternoon, College Captains Chloe and Josh who thanked guests on behalf of past, present, and future students before closing with a heartfelt performance of Holy Forever.
The event concluded with a prayer by Ross Newell, whose family has played an integral role in the College’s creation and ongoing growth.
It was a day rich with gratitude. To see the College’s founders, leaders, staff, and students together in one room was a powerful reminder that Glasshouse Christian College exists today because of the faith, sacrifice, and dedication of so many people who believed in the vision of a Christ-centred school.
As we celebrate 25 years, we give thanks for all that has been achieved and look forward to the next chapter. The story of Glasshouse Christian College is still being written — by our current students, our future graduates, and the generations to come.
