Getting Organised for Term 4

As we enjoy the final days of Term 3, it is a GREAT opportunity to help our children prepare to hit the ground running in Term 4. A little preparation now can make the first week back much smoother and help children develop the organisation skills they need to become
increasingly independent.

Why not set aside some time with your child to complete a Term 4 readiness check? Check that their uniform still fits comfortably, school shoes are clean and ready to go, and that haircuts and jewellery meet our school expectations. For students who wear their hair tied back, check that hair ties and ribbons are the correct school colours and style. It is also a GREAT time to make sure your child has a school hat ready for Term 4.

Encourage your child to take responsibility for cleaning out their school bag and giving their lunchbox and water bottle a thorough wash. Spend a few minutes checking the school calendar on Gateway together and talking about upcoming events, excursions, sporting activities and special days.

You might also print a copy of your child’s class timetable from Gateway and place it somewhere visible. Having the timetable readily available allows students to mentally
prepare for the day ahead and know what they will need to bring and what they can expect.

A simple whiteboard in your child’s bedroom can also be a GREAT tool for developing independence. Encourage them to write down important reminders, activities and things they need to remember each day.

At GCC, we want our children to grow not only in knowledge but also in responsibility and independence. Let’s encourage our children to take ownership and begin Term 4 ready to learn, grow and thrive. Have a GREAT break.
