Health Traineeship Program

The Metropolitan North District of the Health Department has supported a number of young people to complete traineeships in hospitals.  Trainees who commenced their programs at the beginning of 2012 last week graduated with qualifications in fields as varied as Engineering, Allied Health and Nursing.

Emily Ellwood has completed a Certificate III in Health Services Assistance at Caboolture Hospital while Emily McNulty completed the same qualification at Kilcoy Hospital.  Congratulations to Emily and Emily for completing the first step towards a career in the Health system

Our very first graduate of this traineeship program was Jess Harrison.  Jess completed her traineeship in 2010 and went on to study Nursing at Australian Catholic University at Banyo.  Jess is at the end of her university course and has just been appointed as a Registered Nurse to a hospital in Sydney.  Jess is proof of how very valuable traineeships can be in starting a career and she has been a wonderful ambassador for our College in her tertiary studies.  Congratulations to Jessicca Harrison.

Jessicca Harrison

No new traineeships were commenced this year in the hospitals due to funding constraints, however, it was very good news indeed, announced at the graduation ceremony last week, that the program will restart next year with up to 14 traineeships commencing in 2014.  Hopefully our College students will continue to avail themselves of this fantastic opportunity in the future.

Mock Interviews

Last week more than 50 of our Year 10 students were interviewed by industry and workplace representatives to give the students a taste of the interview experience and build their skills to gain employment.  We thank the following workplaces who provided staff to undertake several hours of interviews for the College.  They were  MEGT and Busy at Work Apprenticeship Centres, Queensland Youth Industry Links, Australian Agricultural Colleges Corporation, Mrs Nicky Webb from Beerwah Active Physio, our own Business Manager Mr John Dohler, and Beerwah Community Recycling’s Mrs Trish Cashin.  These wonderful people gave our students an authentic interview experience and very useful advice to take to their next job interview.  We thank them for their time and expertise so willingly shared.  Many of the students realized what a valuable activity this was and said they will be better prepared when they go out into the world and into real workplaces.
