Future Pathways 6 February

Work Experience, Year 10

Sustainable Partnerships Australia is responsible for the organization of our Year 10 Structured Work Experience in 2015 and has a new schools liaison officer, Liz Walker. Queries regarding work experience should first come to the Future Pathways Department, not to Sustainable Partnerships.

Liz will attend the College in the very near future, during a Year 10 Pastoral Care lesson to go over the process and expectations of work experience, as well as to inform the students of their placements.

Students should have submitted their completed registration forms by now. Students who fail to submit a registration form for work experience will not attend College from the 20 – 24 April, and will need to stay at home. As previously indicated, students who submit their forms late are highly unlikely to get their first preference. We understand with new students there is a lot to organise and have already given those families an extended deadline of 5 February. Should any new parents have any queries or wish to discuss any aspect of the work experience program please do not hesitate to contact us. Unfortunately, any students that have not returned their forms to the Future Pathways office by 5 February 2015 will be required to remain at home during the week of work experience.

Just a reminder, the Insurance through Sustainable Partnerships Australia covers the students whilst at work experience.

Training Queensland, North Coast Region, in partnership with our local businesses, has developed a pre-employment skills checklist and workbook “Ready for Work – Getting the Right Job and Keeping it”. You can access further information, including the e-book through Connect, Courses, Students & Families, Future Pathways, Institute of Professional Learning – STUDENT FUTURES.

HEADSTART

We wish to congratulate the following students who have been successful in their applications to do the Headstart program at the University of the Sunshine Coast: Will Smerdon, James Proud, Maddison Larfield, Nicola Bates, Ryan Jeffrey, Lachlan McCaig and Holly Dodwell. We wish them every success in 2015 in their various Headstart courses.

Year 12

Year 12 will attend a University of the Sunshine Coast Showcase on Friday 6 March at Beerwah State High School. This has been a very successful and informative event for our Year 12 students in the past. This will be followed up by interviews with Mr Nash, Future Pathways Co-Ordinator. The Year 12 students will receive a comprehensive interactive careers presentation in week eight of the Pastoral Care program.

National Skills Needs List can be downloaded from http://www.australianapprenticeships.gov.au/

New National Training Complaints Hotline – 13 38 73

Vocational Education and Training (VET) students and employers now have a simple new complaints hotline to report rogue training providers.

If a student was to encounter difficulties with an employer or training provider in a school based traineeship /apprenticeship or TAFE course, the College Management Team and the Future Pathways Department should be notified in the first instance.

The USI initiative

Currently, it is not possible for students to obtain a complete record of their VET enrolments and achievements from a single online source. The Unique Student Identifier or USI, will now allow for this. A USI is effectively an account or reference number made up of numbers and letters.

The USI will be available online and at no cost to the student. This USI will stay with the student for life and be recorded with any nationally recognised VET course that is undertaken.

Glasshouse Christian College is not a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), so students doing a VET related course, school based traineeship or apprenticeship will need to obtain, or be allocated a USI from their training provider.

If a student does not have a USI they should enquire about obtaining one immediately from their training provider, as it is an essential VET regulation.
For more information please visit the Unique Student Identifiers website at www.usi.gov.au
