Last year we introduced the Lego WeDo program at the College in Years 4-6. The unique combination of LEGO® bricks, online tools and curriculum-relevant projects resulted in a range of engaging, high interest, hands-on learning experiences that focus on design, computational thinking and collaboration. The Lego WeDo program integrates learning by incorporating the STEAM disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Math. The combination of these disciplines, with such an innovative program has created many opportunities to enhance and extend the students’ learning.
This year we continued to develop the program and students in Year 5 completed two Lego We Do projects, including Animal Adaptations and the Volcano Alert project. Year 4 students recently completed an introductory Lego WeDo project building a Milo Robot and they also completed a Frog Metamorphosis project. It’s been wonderful to see the high level of engagement and the students’ team-building skills develop across the projects as they have boldly taken on the challenge to build, create, conduct investigations and code. We look forward to seeing these skills transferred to other learning areas and exploring more Lego WeDo projects in the future.
