There was great excitement in the Kitchen Garden this term as our youngest learners stepped into the role of designers, creators and chefs! As part of their Design learning, our Prep students had the joy of baking pizzas in our brand-new pizza oven. With much anticipation, they watched as their creations cooked to perfection, delighting in the process and celebrating the fruits of their learning together.

Not to be outdone, our Year One students took their experience a step further by rolling their own dough from scratch. With careful hands and big smiles, they measured, mixed and kneaded, learning that good things take time, patience and teamwork. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to see how ingredients—many grown right in our own Kitchen Garden—can be transformed into something delicious to share.

Throughout the process, students drew on Visible Thinking routines such as See, Think, Wonder as they observed changes in ingredients and cooking, and Zoom In as they focused on the details of texture, heat and transformation. These experiences helped nurture important personal and social capabilities, including listening, cooperation and problem-solving.

Most importantly, these moments pointed us back to our Creator God, who provides for our needs and fills our lives with good things to enjoy and share. We are reminded of His provision in every harvest and every shared meal.
