How is your child travelling along in this last term? Helping your child stay organised and focused can be a tricky road when they are in Middle School! Good homework and study routines are important – remembering that it’s important to finish well and that ‘The pain of regret is far greater than the pain of self-discipline’. Please email your child’s subject teacher if you want to check in on a query or concern or, contact your child’s PC teacher if there are more general concerns.
Presentation Night

What a wonderful evening! I hope you enjoyed this opportunity to see some of the 2019 highlights and a small showcase of the GCC talent. Congratulations to our award winners and to our 2020 Middle School Captains, Josiah Monos and Marisa Tredoux! I am thrilled to have these two great young people on board leading our Middle School students next year. You can see all the photos here.
2020 preparation and holiday notes
- Class lists: Parents, please let Mrs Vreeling know in the next week if you have any particular requests you would like the school to consider related to 2020 class allocations.
- Laptops: Students will be keeping their laptops over the holidays. I know of several parents who put their child’s laptop in a cupboard along with all the other school items over the holidays. However, if you find some benefit in allowing your child to this device you may also be interested in finding out more about the ‘Parent Controls’ that can be put in place through the ‘system preferences’ on your child’s laptop. This website gives more information on this and is a great idea for peace of mind and to manage laptops without nagging or constant reminding of particular rules your family has for their use at home.
Last week of term
Please remember that it’s important students attend the full year, this is a legal requirement and a strong academic focus is provided right up until the second last day of term. The last day is one where the students have a fun activity to wrap up and celebrate together the year that has been – even this day is an important day for our students!
At Glasshouse Christian College, the last week of the term provides an alternative activities program for Middle School students from Monday to Wednesday. For year 7, it will be a Billy Cart designing, constructing and, of course, races! For Year 8, the program will have a focus on service and giving back to the community. Year 9s will have a career and DeLorean project focus in preparation for Year 10. Thursday is an offsite excursion for Year 7 and 8. Year 9 have the day off to get ready for their Celebration Dinner in the evening. Semester reports will be finalised in this week and will be accessible on the parent portal, the week after school finishes.
