Farewell Tanya Lindsay (almost but not yet)

After 20 years at Glasshouse Christian College, it is time for me to ‘hang up’ my permanent teaching hat at the end of 2022.

I have taught in many previous schools before taking up my teaching position here, and I can honestly say that this is the best school I have ever taught in. No school is perfect and there are always highs and lows.

My journey as a teacher has developed in amazing ways at GCC, through all the highs, lows and in-betweens.

I have been so very blessed to have been able to teach Prep for all 20 of these years, with two minor stints one day a week in Year 2 and then Year 5. I have been able to work part-time with the lovely Mrs Heather Dodwell for many, many years, and a lot of others who have come and gone during this time.

This has been a very prayerful decision to leave permanent teaching, but I know in my heart that I have made the right decision. It certainly is bittersweet as I love having my own class and really getting to know the children. I have made some lovely friends and acquaintances along the way amongst the parent group as well. I am sad that there are siblings of families that I would love to have taught; however, each year brings more, so that would never end.

In the coming years, I intend to do casual (relief) teaching here at GCC, so I will see many familiar faces and get to catch up with past students as well.

This will give me more freedom to enjoy and be available for the first of our grandchildren.

I want to say a big thank-you to Mrs Cheryl Bryers who encouraged me to apply for the job here back in 2002. Cheryl also helped me find my feet moving from the State Education system to the independent one.

I also want to thank the current management, Mr Mike Curtis and Mrs Gail Mitchell, for being so understanding and gracious with the many things I have asked for, including putting in my letter of resignation. Thank you to the amazing staff at GCC. I love the way you look after each other. Keep that up. Working at a school is a tough gig.

Thank you to all the children I have had the pleasure of teaching and the parents I have been blessed to have contact with.

Please say hello next year if you see me around.

So, this is not farewell but just “See you later!”

Tanya Lindsay

Tanya doesn’t know we have done this but we thought you would enjoy seeing photos of Tanya throughout her time at GCC:
