Fantastic swimming display – Primary Swimming Carnival

More than 300 excited Primary students from Year 3 to Year 6 flooded into the Beerwah Pool ready to show their skills and fitness in swimming. The house tents were adorned with awesome decorations and as students filled them the excitement grew. War cries thundered out from each house with Sinai being judged the best,  Ararat placed second and Zion third. Being a judge was very tough as every house was loud and clear.

As races began the house support was fantastic, helping each competitor to swim as fast as possible. There were some very close races and the standard of swimming improves every year. It was great to see up to six races in some age divisions which showed awesome participation by the students as they tried to gain valuable house points.

Indiah Loveday, Dalton Loveday and Chloe Turnbull showed their class and won every event they swam in. They all train hard at their chosen clubs and this training and hard work certainly paid off. They were a joy to watch and were a great inspiration to their house members who enjoyed cheering them on. All three of these students are in Zion so their 60 points each certainly helped the Zion house points. We look forward to seeing Indiah, Dalton and Chloe swimming at the Glasshouse District Carnival.

A team of 37 students will be swimming at the Glasshouse District Carnival next week where they can gain selection into the Glasshouse District Team to swim at the Sunshine Coast Regional Carnival.

Seeing all the teachers and students dressed in house colours added to the fun of the day along with novelty races the occasional cool off in the Splash Pool. The House Relay was a highlight of the day with the two fastest girls and boys from each house swimming in the 9 – 12 year all age relay races. Sinai won the Girls relay with Zion second and Zion won the boys relay with Ararat second and Sinai third.

The day ended with relays where teams of four students rode on inflatable toys with lots of laughs and team work on display.

The House trophy was presented to Ararat as the winning house but due to some results not being entered, it was found that Zion were actually the 2018 Primary Swimming Carnival winners by just five points!! Final Primary points were Zion – 786 points, Ararat – 781 points and Sinai 633 points. Age Champion points were also finalised after the carnival and these students will be presented awards at the 2018 Sports Awards Ceremony towards the end of the year.
