Empowering Minds: Glasshouse Christian College Shines in Mooting Competition

At Glasshouse Christian College, we believe in nurturing academic excellence and fostering a spirit of intellectual curiosity among our students. This year, our Year 12 Legal Studies students ventured into the realm of mooting for the first time, participating in the prestigious University of Sunshine Coast (USC) Mooting Competition. Mooting, a simulated court proceeding where students argue hypothetical cases, not only sharpens legal acumen but also cultivates essential skills such as critical thinking, public speaking, and teamwork. It is a cornerstone of legal education, providing students with invaluable practical experience that bridges theory with real-world application.

The Competition

This year, four year 12 senior legal studies students (Brianna Albrand, Cora Lawrence, Keira Lerch, and Kaitlin Morris) engaged in two intense preliminary rounds where they demonstrated their prowess in dissecting legal arguments and presenting compelling cases. The competition centered around a complex civil case, requiring participants to meticulously prepare written submissions and deliver persuasive oral arguments against opposing teams. This rigorous process not only tested their legal knowledge but also challenged their ability to think on their feet and respond adeptly to unforeseen challenges.

The competition, hosted by USC, provided a platform for our students to showcase their skills and engage with peers from other schools. It was a testament to their dedication and intellectual rigor as they navigated through the intricacies of legal reasoning and advocacy.

The Results

Despite being newcomers to the competition, Glasshouse Christian College emerged commendably, securing the 7th position out of 14 participating teams. This achievement underscores the dedication and hard work of our students, as well as the guidance provided by our committed faculty members. The journey from preparing comprehensive legal arguments to presenting them convincingly in a competitive environment exemplifies our school’s commitment to holistic education.

We celebrate this milestone with great pride, recognising the perseverance and resilience displayed by our students throughout the competition. Their success is not just a reflection of their individual talents but also of the supportive community and values-driven education provided by Glasshouse Christian College.

In Summary

As we reflect on our inaugural participation in the USC Mooting Competition 2024, we look forward to future opportunities for our students to further excel in legal studies. We encourage all aspiring legal minds to embrace mooting as a means to refine their skills and deepen their understanding of the law. To our team of Year 12 students, we offer congratulations and commendations on their remarkable achievement. We are very proud of you girls!
