Nervous tennis players arrived at the Landsborough Tennis Courts ready to compete in the Glasshouse District Tennis Championships. Among them were five keen GCCC students who train and compete weekly in tennis at different levels.

They competed in round robin games followed by play offs and the quality of tennis was very high. Bayley O’Brien, Jesse Goddard, Riley Korzyinski and Adele Souter all played well with some very close games being played. Ten-year-old Riley still has two more years in this competition so has a great future.

Emily Roach played fantastic tennis beating everyone except the tournament winner. Emily fought a tough final losing 4-2 in a game with exceptionally long rallies and some great individual shots. Emily was awarded Runner Up District Champion and qualified for the Sunshine Coast Regional Tennis Championships held at Kawana.

Emily won two out of three games on the first day of the Regional Championships, finishing 2nd in her pool and qualified for the second day of competition along with a record five other Glasshouse District students due to the quality of players representing our district. She won one game of three against the top 14 girls on the Sunshine Coast and finished in the top eight which was a fantastic effort. As she is still only 11 years old so she is looking forward to competing again next year.
