Designing, Creating and Problem-Solving in Years 3 and 5

What a creative and imaginative year it has been in Design Technology! Our students have embraced the challenge of learning new skills, exploring new technologies and reflecting deeply on God’s amazing design for the world around us.

Year 3 students were captivated by the possibilities of Augmented Reality (AR). As part of their integrated unit, they designed joyful celebration scenes, bringing stories and special moments to life through digital overlays. Using Visible Thinking routines like See, Think, Wonder, students worked in groups to analyse examples, share their ideas respectfully and support one another through trial and error. These experiences helped them develop teamwork, active listening and critical-thinking skills that will serve them far beyond the classroom.

Meanwhile, our Year 5 students continued their real-world design project focused on the Bribie Island wash-through. Building on last semester’s community-connected learning, students refined concepts and coded devices that could help residents navigate the waters more safely and efficiently. This unit invited students to consider how they can use STEM not only to learn but to serve others. Through the Zoom In thinking routine, students examined maps, currents and community feedback, thinking carefully about how God calls us to steward creation and support our neighbours.

Across both year levels, we saw collaboration, persistence and creativity flourish. Students encouraged one another, celebrated successes and learned from challenges; reminders of the beautiful community God invites us into.

As we come to the end of the school year, we thank you, parents, for your encouragement, partnership and prayers. May your family experience the peace of Jesus, the joy of His birth and the blessing of time together this Christmas. Merry Christmas, and we look forward to an exciting 2026!
