Year 9 Engineers studied the world of simple machines – levers, linkages, pulleys, gears, and cranks and cams.
They were set the challenge of designing and creating an automata advertising sign prototype to attract people at a supermarket, shopping centre or shop front. This design involved an animated creative scene in which something interesting happens. The prototype mechanics are driven by hand but have the potential to be driven by an electric motor or by wind power. Laser cutting and CNC routing technologies were used to make some of the components.
The project journey involved complex problem-solving and testing of the prototype development, but after much perseverance, the students finally enjoyed seeing their ideas come to life.
