Eleven Year old Damian Tomokino was selected in the Sunshine Coast 11 year Rugby League team to play at the Queensland Primary Schools State Championships held in Wynnum at the beginning of Term 3. The team had trained together for a couple of months and were keen to do well at this carnival.
The boys played one game each day for five days in a round robin format. Sunshine Coast won three games, drew one and lost one and ended up in the third vs fourth play off after just missing out on the final as Gold Coast had a better points differential. Sunshine Coast played Met West to determine third place and the Coast team absolutely dominated the opposition to win 30 – 0. This meant Sunshine Coast finished third overall which was a fantastic result.
Damian was tireless in tackling and stopped many dangerous runs by the opposition. He also delivered quality ball to wide players often contributing to try scoring opportunities. He started all games and played very maturely in the second row.
Damian made some great friends and is keen to play with this group of players again next year should he be selected in the 12 year team.
