Creative Minds Shine at the da Vinci Decathlon

On Wednesday, 7 and Thursday, 8 May, our talented students proudly represented Glasshouse Christian College at the highly anticipated da Vinci Decathlon, held at Sunshine Coast Grammar School.  The da Vinci Decathlon is an internationally recognised academic competition, run in the spirit of an Olympic decathlon, with teams of eight students competing across 10 disciplines: Engineering, Code Breaking, Art and Poetry, Ideation, English, Mathematics, Science, Cartography, Creative Producers (Drama) and Legacy (General Knowledge). This prestigious event brought together schools from across the Sunshine Coast and as far afield as the Gold Coast, creating a vibrant and competitive atmosphere.

Each of our teams, made up of eight students from each grade in Years 5 to 9, trained diligently in preparation for this challenge. Their dedication and teamwork were evident as they tackled a wide range of stimulating tasks throughout the day.

This year’s overarching theme of sustainability wove through every subject area, inspiring students to apply creative and critical thinking to pressing environmental issues. The competition unfolded over three intensive sessions, requiring students to navigate which team members were best suited to each task while continuously supporting and encouraging one another — a true exercise in collaboration and adaptability.

We are delighted to share the outstanding results achieved by our teams:

  • Year 5:
    🥇 1st place in Engineering
  • Year 6:
🥈 2nd place in Code Breaking
🥉 3rd place in Art and Poetry
  • Year 7:
    🥇 1st place in English
🥉 3rd place in Creative Producers
  • Year 8:
    🥇 1st place in Mathematics
🥇 1st place in Code Breaking
🥈 2nd place in Art and Poetry
🏆 Spirit Award for exceptional encouragement, collaboration, and sportsmanship

We are immensely proud of all students for their commitment, enthusiasm and exemplary conduct throughout the event. Their achievements are a testament not only to their academic talents but also to their ability to work effectively as a team, think creatively and respond thoughtfully to real-world challenges.

Congratulations to every participant for representing our College with such distinction!
