There have been so many changes in the world due to COVID-19, that it’s barely recognisable in some countries. Even in Queensland, there are small changes like less traffic on the road and big changes like seeing restaurants and cafes closed for business.
It hits home hard when you learn of friends or family members who have lost their jobs or had their hours reduced. My heart goes out to any of you in this situation.
At GCC, lots of things have changed but the main thing stays the same. We’ve had to cancel sporting competitions, excursions and camps but the core business of teaching and learning is continuing. However, as we head towards seemingly inevitable school closure we will be embracing a new online way of doing this. It will be a huge change for the College but we are well placed to weather this storm and still provide the high level of teaching and learning experiences our community expects.
Similarly, one major change we made at GCC is to our Open Day. It’s the biggest event on the calendar for our current and new families but we won’t be able to hold it in the traditional way due to the current situation. Instead of cancelling or postponing, we have decided to turn it into a Virtual Open Day.

We are planning to have Music, Dance, and Drama performances, student-guided tours, interviews, demonstrations, and are even running a Virtual Eagle Competition. The Virtual Open Day will be held on the same date and time (Saturday 16 May 10am to 2pm) and we hope to virtually ‘see’ you all there via Facebook Live or on our YouTube channel. We will have a timed program of events a little closer to the date so you can tune in for your child’s performance if you can’t participate in the whole four-hour event.
For those of you who may feel anxious or worried about the current situation, please remember that our great God never changes (Hebrews 13:8). If you are looking for comfort and hope now is the perfect time to tune into an online church service in your local area. By the time we’ve come through the current restrictions, you may find yourself with a whole new group of friends!
