Throughout the term a team of committed year 6 and 7 football players have been competing after school in the Community Cup Football Competition for Independent Schools. GCCC was unbeaten going into the finals where the team met Good Shepard Lutheran College.
Students were very excited as the game was played at Stockland Park as part of the United For Daniel Community Football Event held once a year. The opportunity to play in this stadium was awesome for the students and the atmosphere was electric.
Our team scored in the first couple of minutes and were encouraged by the fantastic start in a very windy game. At the end of the first half three more goals had been scored and the score was 2-2!! The second half was a real battle and Mark Kennedy made some amazing saves to keep GCCC in the game. Unfortunately Good Shepard managed to score twice to our once so became the champions with the final score at 4 – 3. Our team fought well in difficult, windy conditions but were proud to become Runners Up.
The team was presented with a medal each and will receive a new strip for GCCC Primary Sport.
Mrs Stott was very disappointed to miss this game as she had a prior engagement in New Zealand, but thanks go to Mr Modlin and Mr and Mrs Trevan for running the team in the final.
We are very proud of the team and are grateful to all the parents who transported their own child and often others to each game.
