On Tuesday 8 June, eight budding chess players from GCC made their way to the Sunshine Coast Individual Age Championships Chess Tournament held at Coolum Beach State School.
It was a large event with many students from all over the Sunshine Coast representing their schools in hopes of winning the age championship.
We had students representing the school in three categories including; under 8, under 10 and under 12. The students played seven rounds of chess, having a brain break in between each round. All of the students played very well and won multiple games out of the 7 rounds. We even had two students, Cooper Beaven and Bryce Stout, who received a merit award for winning 4.5 games or above.
The students all showed such excellent determination, persistence and sportsmanship in each of their games and we are so proud of all that they achieved. It was a wonderful experience for everyone.
