This year has started with many of us off and running already at speeds close to Superman. Parents rushing round shops for books, pens and uniforms, Kids racing to get ready for school and staff pouring over lessons and organising meetings. And look how fast the year is going already!
It’s go go go just like our swimming carnival last Friday. How privileged we were to see the speed and enthusiasm of so many who went for it and gave their all to get to the finish line. You know, Jesus gives us an example of how to run life well and finish well, which I believe can help us to get through each day. Hebrews 12:1-3 encourages us to look to Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith. As Christians our end goal is heaven but along the way life is a bit like a race. God understands that sometimes the race overwhelms us which is why in Philippians 4:6,7 we are encouraged not be overwhelmed by anxious thoughts, but come to God with everything, giving thanks so we can experience the peace of God which is unmatchable. His peace is available to all come to Him with everything. The next verse, Phil 4: 8 encourages us to think positively when it says ” Finally brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right ,whatever is pure, whatever is admirable , if anything is excellent and praiseworthy think about these things”. This is our College Bible theme for 2017 which as Pastors we are excited about how this will transform our thinking and our actions this year.
So, Let’s take time out today to breath and enjoy the One who gives us breath. To talk to Him and involve Him in our everyday lives. Let Him take your pressure, slow down and realise that we are so blessed to run the race with Jesus by our side. Rest in the promise that through Christ I can do all things (Phil 4:13) and He can make the Impossible possible (Luke 1:37).
