Celebrating Reading

We take great pleasure in showcasing the outstanding efforts of reading at the College and recently acknowledged the Semester 1 Scholastic Literacy Pro Award recipients at the Prep – Year 3 and Year 4-6 Assemblies. Across the College, students have passed an impressive 21,255 Lexile quizzes and collectively read an astounding 72,587,776 words. Notably, 77 students have earned their Gold Lexile Award. The following ‘Millionaire Readers’ have read over 1 million words.

The Scholastic Literacy Pro program offers numerous benefits and fosters a love of reading while developing the students’ skills through targeted books and the freedom for students to choose what they read.

Here are some key advantages we love about the program:

  • Personalised Learning
  • Motivation and Engagement
  • Increases Reading Stamina
  • Comprehension quizzes and Book Hooks Blog options
  • Fosters a positive attitude toward reading
  • Progress tracking for students, parents and teachers
  • Exposure to a wide range of genres
  • New Lexile added regularly

As we settle into the new term, the students have been encouraged to set attainable goals, maintain consistent reading routines, and to read widely. To build our reading stamina, we’ve been earning daily ‘pom, pom’ rewards by timing our reads with sand timers and we’ve created a paper chain to showcase the genres we love to read. Any way to model and promote a love of reading is encouraged!

Thank you parents and caregivers, for your invaluable partnership in the reading programs we run. Your support is greatly appreciated. For more information about the Literacy Pro program please visit the Primary Library Gateway Page.

Congratulations to our Semester 1 Literacy Pro Award Recipients
