Seven very talented and committed swimmers competed at Caboolture in the Sunshine Coast Primary Swimming Championships. They qualified for this event through the Glasshouse District Swimming Carnival was held at Beerwah recently.
Caitlin Moore had an outstanding day at the Championships to qualify for the Queensland State Primary School Championships to be held in Brisbane. Caitlin started the day with a beautiful swim in the 10 year 50 m Backstroke event beating all the opposition to place first, taking three seconds off her personal best time. She placed third in the 50m Freestyle against a very talented field and will also swim this event at the State Championships. Caitlin also finished second in the butterfly event but her time was unfortunately just outside the qualifying mark by 0.9 second!
The standard of swimmers at this event is very high but our swimmers swam their fastest ever times and most placed in the middle of the field. Beau Howard gained 10th place in his least favourite stroke, backstroke, setting a new PB. Sophie Trevan also swam well in her backstroke event finishing a very creditable 12th and bettering her time by 3 seconds. Cassidy Ferris swam faster than she had before when she powered through her 50m freestyle race to break her personal best time by over 3 seconds to finish 14th. Molly McCaughey, Amity Roser and Aiden McKellar also swum just under their best times in their races.
Every student represented GCCC and our Glasshouse District with pride and swam their absolute best. Thanks once again to our parents who supported their children and the team at this event.
