Our Prep to Year 3 students enjoyed a wonderful visit from award-winning illustrator Lucia Masciullo this week. Born and raised in Italy before moving to Australia, Lucia has illustrated thirty-six books and is renowned for bringing stories to life through her whimsical and imaginative artwork. Using techniques such as watercolour, pencil and collage, Lucia shared how illustrations help tell stories and create memorable characters that readers love.

During her visit, Lucia captivated students with stories from her creative journey and provided insights into the illustration process. Her warmth, enthusiasm, and ability to connect with young learners kept students engaged and enthralled. Students gained a deeper appreciation for the important role illustrators play in storytelling and learnt how they can sketch and experiment through art.

One of the highlights of Lucia’s visit was the first break watercolour session for Year 3-6 students. Excitement, creativity, and concentration abounded as students developed their artistic skills and confidence. Lucia’s sessions inspired our young artists and readers alike, leaving them excited to continue exploring both books and art!
