Our GCCC swimming team have had great success at the District Swimming Carnival held last Friday at the Beerwah Pool. GCCC finished second overall which is the best ever result at this carnival. Some of our team had been training regularly with their own swim squads and at our Early Morning Training sessions in preparation for the carnival. Their hard work certainly paid off with a record eight students being selected into the Glasshouse District Swim Team to compete at the Sunshine Coast Regional Carnival coming up soon.
Caitlin Moore had an outstanding carnival winning all but one event which meant she was presented as 10 year old girls Age Champion. Caitlin had one of the highest points tally of the day. Cassidy Ferris was close behind Caitlin in many races and was the runner up Age Champion which was a proud moment for our college. Molly McCaughey was also close behind these girls in points.
Beau Howard also had a fantastic day winning breaststroke and 200m IM, he placed 2nd in baskstroke and freestyle and 3rd in butterfly to gain him just enough points to be joint 12 Year Age Champion. It all came down to the last race, the 200IM which Beau won to give him enough points to be joint winner with Saxon Crozier from St Michael’s College.
Amity Roser was a tough competitor all day and battled it out with the other 11 year old girls. She won the freestyle and made great comeback in the 200m IM to gain second place and enough points to become runner up Age Champion.
Sophie Trevan gave it everything in her races against the top scoring swimmer of the day Lucilla Osswald from St Michael’s College. Sophie won three second places and two third places to finish just a point behind the runner up age champion in the 12 girls competition.
Our team of 35 students all swam their very best and were fantastic ambassadors for GCCC. Many students swam personal best times and improved their results from our College Carnival. The team is grateful to all the parents who came to support them on the day and cheer them on.
We wish the students listed below all the best when they compete at the Regional Carnival.
