“Best Bedtime Story Ever”

Last week, we held our College Dedication Service as a whole school event. It is a special time when we come together to celebrate God’s goodness to us over the last 24 years and look forward to what he has in store for us in the future.

Our special guest speaker was Cheryl Bryers, former GCC Principal and Head of Primary School and you could have heard a pin drop during her speech. Almost 1170 students were sitting in the Sports Centre and although it was a hot morning there was no shuffling, bored coughs or loud sighs. The Prep students had only been in school for just over two weeks and there wasn’t a restless body among them as they listened intently to what Cheryl had to say.

One Prep student was heard to say with enthusiasm, “That was the best bedtime story ever!” and another excitedly asked his grandma later that night, “Did you know that Beerwah used to be a railway town?”

Cheryl spoke of God’s leading in the formation of what was then Glasshouse Country Christian College and how the church elders were guided to this very spot to build the College. To go from 15 or 16 students and two demountables 24 years ago to 1170 students and stunning facilities in 2024 is a work of God and an answer to a lot of prayers and hard work. Cheryl talked about the importance of looking back thanking God for our history and looking forward to the future to see his mighty work continue.

Some of you will know our “impossible history” and how God worked to make us what we are today but it was new information to a lot of people. Most people would have laughed at the idea of building a Christian school in what was a small rural railway town but look at us now! Our history is important to us and we have a whole page dedicated to it on our website. It is important because it reminds us of God’s goodness to us in the past and encourages us to know He will be with us in the future.

Throughout her address, Cheryl encouraged us to embrace the legacy of our past while embracing the promise of the future. Her words served as a source of inspiration and motivation for all of us to continue striving for excellence and making a positive difference in the lives of our students and the broader community.

The dedication ceremony was not just a celebration of our College’s history, but also a reaffirmation of our commitment to providing a nurturing, inclusive, and academically enriching environment for every student. It was a moment to rededicate ourselves to the values of integrity, compassion, and excellence that define our College community.

Thank you for your unwavering support and commitment to our College. Here’s to the next chapter of our journey together.
