Are you coming to Open Day?

Are you coming to our Open Day on Saturday 15 May from 10am to 2pm? It will be the first time we have been able to hold our annual Open Day since 2019 (due to COVID-19) and you will be amazed at the changes you will see since our last Open Day.

The number one drawcard for parents will be seeing their children perform and there are lots of opportunities with a jam-packed program:

Best Sunshine Coast School Open Day

For those who have never been to our Agricultural Science farm, Open Day is the perfect opportunity to see it in action. Tours leave the College from the bus stand at 10:30am and 12:30pm. Bookings are essential and we encourage those who are interested to reserve their seat as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. You can book here.

Another highlight for our current families and those in the community will be a sneak peek into our new Performance Hall or, as we like to call it, GPAC. It’s not quite finished (due for completion June or July 2021) but we have made special arrangements with the builder to take limited tours inside the hall. The carpet is down, the stage is up and visitors will be able to view some of the beautiful designs on the walls and ceiling plus the art installations in the foyer. The retractable seating is arriving the week after Open Day so you will have to use your imagination for some of it but it will be an amazing opportunity to see the future at GCC.

GCC’s Open Day is also a lovely day out for the whole family without having to tackle the unpredictable traffic on the Bruce Highway (for most of our families). It’s not often that so many food trucks and free activities are in our home town of Beerwah but they will be out in force on Open Day. You can read all about it on our Open Day page but here is the summary of the food on offer:

Paco’s Tacos Mexican food
Donut Kitchen delicious doughnuts
Stars and Stripes American slushies
P and F high tea
P and F sausage sizzle
Mr Whippy
Ned’s Coffees
DeLorean Coffee Van
GCC Tuckshop sushi, sandwiches and drinks

Primary students and parents will find the secondary classrooms fascinating.

Parents and visitors have missed out on a lot in the classrooms over the past year with all the restrictions, so Open Day is the perfect event to make up for lost time and see your children’s classrooms. If you have primary children, this is also the ideal opportunity to visit the secondary classrooms and show them their future. Our facilities rival those of much more established schools and Open Day and our teachers can’t wait to show you what the students have been working on.

This year we have a different train helping move people from the car parks to the centre of campus. The new train will have twice as many carriages which means it can carry twice as many people! Firm favourites like our free jumping castle and animal nursery for the little ones will also make a welcome return and add fun to an already great day out.

Student Voice will be set up near the food trucks on the grassy lawn outside the library. The leaders will have Instagram frames and are happy to take your family photo inside one of them. There will even be a prize valued at more than $100 for a random winner. We want to get the word out and create a buzz so if you are anywhere on campus during Open Day please take a selfie (or have a Student Voice leader take one for you) and #gccopenday.

We invite our current families to bring their friends and relatives to learn more about Glasshouse Christian College. We will have a special section set up in the Hospitality Courtyard just for prospective families to talk with our Heads of Schools, meet our Principal Mike Curtis and learn about vacancies and possible waiting pools. We have flyers in Main Admin and you are welcome to pick them up to hand out to those who are interested.

Most school open days are for new families but at GCC, we want to celebrate our current families as well. This day is for you and we invite you to come and enjoy it with us.
