Aquathon Action

Amidst the cold and showery conditions, the All School Aquathlon was held at Lake Kawana last weekend. Hadley Smith and Hannah Rae were our only competitors this year but the girls braved the chilly conditions and raced well.

Hannah competed in the Primary Aquathlon (10 and 11 yrs), where she ran 1 km, swam 200m and ran another 1 km to the finish. There were almost one hundred competitors from all over the South East corner in her race and this was the first time Hannah had competed in an aquathlon. She ran and swam well although swimming in the salt water was not her favourite experience, but she enjoyed the race and finished 85th overall.

Hadley competed in this event last year and was happy to be one of the older experienced competitors in her Kids Aquathlon event this year. Hadley ran a fast first 500m run leg and was equal first going into transition. She led the race by 5m heading into the lake for the swim leg. She dropped a few places during the swim leg in the windy and choppy conditions but ran a fantastic second 500m run leg and sprinted to the line to finish in 4th equal place. Both of Hadley’s run legs were just one second behind the overall winner which helped her gain this fantastic result.

Unfortunately, the secondary students’ Triathlons on Sunday had to be cancelled due to the wet stormy weather.
