Another Successful Visit from Our Japanese Friends in Term 4

We were absolutely thrilled to once again host a wonderful group of 36 students and several teachers from Yamanashi High School in Tokyo for their annual three-week visit.

The students fully immersed themselves in Australian school life and culture, formed lasting friendships, and most importantly, they had a fantastic time.

Their days were filled with supportive learning from local ESL teachers with classes designed to focus on building practical English skills in a fun environment. Students also joined their Year 8 and Year 9 buddies daily in regular classes as a chance to experience Australian school life firsthand and practice English in a natural setting. Our buddies are always excited to meet our visitors and share their school experiences. Each year, many tears are always shed on both sides at our final farewell gatherings, highlighting the friendships made.

In return, the Yamanashi students shared aspects of their culture with our students in Year 1, Year 4 and Year 7 with singing and engaging presentations, the art of origami, and lively Q & A sessions. One fun fact we learned was that their school day in Japan runs from 8am to 4pm with only one 30 minute break. Students also clean their classroom at the end of each day to show respect for their education.

A major success of every tour is our incredible host families who open their homes and hearts to offer a genuine “home away from home” experience for these students. Staying with a local family provides a brilliant opportunity to experience Australian family routines and traditions, and to practice conversational English firsthand. Each year, many long-term international friendships are forged and never forgotten.

We look forward to welcoming new Yamanashi friends again in 2026!
