AMT Mathematics Competition

On Tuesday 4 August, 14 bright minds embarked on a Mathematical challenge. Students in Year 5 and 6 who had proven to be excellent mathematical problem-solvers were selected to compete in the Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) run by the Australian Maths Trust.

The AMC is an engaging 30-problem competition that demonstrates the importance and relevance of mathematics in students’ everyday lives. The competition paper is uniquely designed each year by Australia’s leading educators and academics. Students compete against all participating students around Australia within their current year level.

Our GCC representatives first participated in two practice sessions before the competition to get a feel of the types of questions they would be working with. Students also did some problem solving preparation in class and at home. The official competition ran for 60 minutes and was completed online.

It was a very difficult competition; however, after completing the paper students came out of it feeling challenged, extended and empowered. All 14 students did a fantastic job! It was a wonderful opportunity to be involved in and each student should be proud of their achievements.
