A glimpse of my story

Being new to the school, I thought I would share briefly where I have come from.

… a thankful heart.

‘Man plans his future, but the Lord determines his steps’. Proverbs 16.9

I’m sure for many of you, where you are today is not where you thought you would have been five or ten years ago?

In 2015, in Bendigo Victoria (where I was living at the time) I injured my left knee quite severely resulting in a knee reconstruction and an unfortunate staph infection. With many unforeseen complications and eight surgeries later over a period of two years, I had no choice but to withhold university, move interstate, and be dependent on my family as I learnt how to walk again. I remember spending many nights staring at the roof full of frustration, anxiety and fear of the unknown. Maybe you can relate?

“Be confident of this, that he who began a good work in you, will carry it to completion at the day of our Lord Jesus Christ” Philippians 1.6

Since then, my perspective has changed and I see how God has used the little things in life to lead me towards what matters and his heart for me. During those two years of suffering, I took part in a Bible school where God held my hand tightly and renewed my mind. I then went on to complete the Bachelor of Physical and Outdoor Education that I began years prior. One year ago I would have never imagined working at Glasshouse Christian College as a Pastor, yet God’s hand has been with me the whole time. After six weeks of Term 1, I have learnt a lifetime of names and faces! My role has been full of thrills and exciting relationships: staff, students and parents, camps, chapels, excursions, bible studies, sports day, pastoral care, and more. I also classroom teach on Thursdays in Year 2 and Year 5.

It has been a privilege to walk alongside young children who need a role model in their life. I hope to be a friend and good example to these beautiful children as I show them the way of Jesus, who has changed my life. In the Primary School this year, many students have already chosen to follow Jesus, and we have around 70-80 regular students attending Bible Study each week. This is GOOD NEWS! As Term 1 continues, I encourage ALL students to come along to Bible Study to understand God’s heart for them. As our Year 6 faith captain Abigail Sidey said, ‘If everyone believed in God, the world would be a better place’.

At Glasshouse Christian College, we are truly learning how to place God’s love at the centre, as our students succeed in every area of life. God is in our midst, and for this reason, I have a thankful heart.

I ask you to stand with us at GCC.

Many blessings,
Josh Wolsley, College Pastor
